Unbox & inspect
Open your device in a private space. Check tamper-evident packaging and that the holographic seals (if present) are intact. If anything looks altered, stop and contact support immediately.
Secure hardware wallet setup — simple, colorful, and privacy-first.
This page walks you through the essential steps for a secure Trezor setup: unboxing, initializing, backing up your recovery, firmware checks, and basic safety habits. Follow each step carefully — your seed is the ultimate key to your crypto.
Open your device in a private space. Check tamper-evident packaging and that the holographic seals (if present) are intact. If anything looks altered, stop and contact support immediately.
Connect your Trezor to a computer or mobile device using the included cable. Only follow instructions displayed on the device screen — never trust instructions coming solely from a website or a third party.
Choose “Create new wallet.” Your device will generate a recovery phrase (seed) using true random entropy. Write the words down in order — do not store them digitally.
Use the included recovery card or a metal backup plate for long-term durability. Keep the backup in a safe, separate location — consider multiple geographically separated copies for redundancy.
Before transacting, verify the device firmware directly on the device and confirm the fingerprint shown matches the official source. Only install firmware updates from the official site.
Set a strong device PIN and test recovery on a spare device (or simulate) to ensure your backup works. Never share your recovery phrase or PIN with anyone — no legitimate support will ever ask for them.
Follow these evergreen rules to keep your crypto secure:
1. Verify packaging & tamper seals after unboxing. 2. Initialize on the device — never enter seed on a computer. 3. Write seed words in order; double-check spelling. 4. Store a metal backup in a fireproof, waterproof location. 5. Set a unique PIN; avoid simple patterns. 6. Verify firmware and device fingerprint on the device display. 7. Test recovery on a secondary device or simulator. 8. Never share seed or PIN with anyone. 9. Use address verification before sending funds. 10. Keep at least one offline copy in a secure place.
